St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundation Nurse Navigator Program
The 2024 TFAC will support programming for Nurse Navigators at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health Systems (SJC) who work with cancer patients throughout their journey. The nine navigators currently serve about 3900 patients a year, about 37% of whom have lung cancer.
The funds will specifically finance a Lung Cancer Screening and Incidental Pulmonary Nodule Navigation Program to allow Nurse Navigators to identify lung cancer patients early and improve outcomes for those diagnosed with lung cancer.
Mercer University School of Medicine
The 2024 TFAC will continue to fund the Summer Scholars program which places five to eight medical students alongside cancer researchers for eight weeks in the summer and provides ongoing support for the Savannah cancer research facility.
The Stephen D. Hollenberg Memorial Patient Assistance Fund
The Hollenberg Fund was created in 2005 by the Hollenberg Family to honor the memory of Stephen D. Hollenberg. The Fund takes care of many unique needs of cancer patients that are not covered by insurance or regular community services. The Fund has served patients in the greater Savannah area and benefits cancer patients at both Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph’s/Candler.
